Assisted Living

  • Ontario Acquired Brain Injury Services : Many people with acquired brain injuries live in supportive housing with staff who are available on-site 24 hours a day to help them live independently in their own apartments. Others receive support at home through the Community Care Access Centres.
  • Ontario Attendant Services : The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care has two programs which provide trained attendants to help people with physical disabilities live independently at home.
  • Access Apartments : Ensures adults with physical disabilities can live independently in the community (City of Toronto)

Rehabilitation Services

  • Ontario March of Dimes : Lists important fee-for-service programs to consumers, such as attendant care, specialized education/rehabilitation classes, recreational and social activities and peer-to-peer support networks.
  • Ontario Children’s Rehabilitation Services/Children’s Treatment Centres :
    Children’s Treatment Centres (CTCs) are community-based organizations that serve children with physical disabilities and multiple special needs.  The Ministry of Children and Youth Services funds children’s rehabilitation services offered by CTCs.

  • AbilityOnline : A free internet community where young people with disabilities can meet role models, mentors and friends.
  • Canadian Electric Wheelchair Hockey Association : A hockey program for people with disabilities who have limited upper body strength and/or mobility who could significantly benefit from the use of an electric wheelchair in competitive sport and daily living.

  • Disabled Sailing Association of Ontario : Provides Ontarians with disabilities the opportunity to access and enjoy sailing activities.
  • National Library of Canada - Library Services for Persons with Disablities : Information is available on tools and publications to maximize the sharing of materials in alternative formats , and to support Canadian libraries in serving their clients with disabilities
  • Ontario Track 3 Ski Association : A volunteer non-profit organization that teaches children and youth with disabilities to downhill ski.
  • Sam Sullivan Disability Foundation : Affiliated societies are: BC Mobility Opportunities Society, ConnecTra Society, Disabled Independent Gardeners Association, Disabled Sailing Association, Tetra Society of North America and Vancouver Adapted Music Society.
